The City of Fairfax, Virginia is an independent city near Washington, DC. It is the county seat and a separate entity from Fairfax County. The historic section of town is referred to as Old Town Fairfax or Historic Fairfax and was founded in 1799. During the Colonial and Revolutionary periods, the City of Fairfax was frequented by George Washington, George Mason, and William Fairfax. Today, the historic community is thriving and is known for its shopping, dining, cultural arts performances and festivals.
The City of Fairfax is located approximately 15 miles west of Washington, DC and just south of I-66.
