Bethesda was named in 1871, after the Presbyterians’ Bethesda Meeting House, which is still a local landmark. Since then, it has grown and changed from a small town to a bustling urban destination, with a wealth of restaurants, shopping malls, boutique shops and office buildings in and around its center.It is home to the National Institute of Health, the Bethesda Naval Hospital, and headquarters to many national organizations and companies.
